Heat transfer and static stability tests of the General Purpose Heat Source (GPHS) configurations at Mach 8.0
Abstract
Heat transfer and static stability tests were conducted in the VKF Tunnel B at Mach 8. Discrete point surface heat flux measurements were made on the reference (unmodified) GPSH configuration over a range of inclination angles from -50 to 140 deg at several model orientations. Six-component static force and moment measurements were made on the reference GPHS configuration and three design modifications. An angle-of-attack range of -5 to 95 deg was covered at angles of sideslip from -9 to 15 deg and aerodynamic roll angles from -45 to 45 deg.
