Microelectronics serving engineering
Abstract
The development of electronics technology over the past 20 years was reviewed. Microelectronics is shown to be the product of a long evolution rather than a revolution. The mode of operation of digital electronic circuits, from simple units to the microcomputer, is described. Potential applications of these techniques within the gas industry are explored. The need for gas engineers to become familiar with the capabilities of microelectronics, and to take the initiative in defining worthwhile applications within their own areas of expertise, is noted. Predictions of future developments are made.
