Wind tunnel balances for measuring dynamic derivatives
Abstract
Aspects concerning the definition of dynamic derivatives are briefly examined and criteria for the design of balances for measuring these derivatives are considered. It is pointed out that a working group for the development of wind tunnel balances for the measurement of dynamic derivatives was established in West Germany in 1973. A description is presented of the promoted measuring devices, taking into account devices for oscillatory derivative measurements in the low-velocity range and balances for the transonic and supersonic range. The employment of balances for measuring dynamic derivatives in wind tunnels in West Germany is considered, giving attention also to future applications.
