Ordering in vanadium carbonitrides
Abstract
The paper deals with a neutron-diffraction study of the structure of vanadium carbonitrides in the V8(C,N)7 composition range, and of the influence of heat treatment on the ordering in these compounds. A cubic superstructure is shown to form in carbon-rich vanadium carbonitrides at temperatures below 1000 C, without separation of the nonmetal lattice into carbon and nitrogen sublattices. An increase in relative nitrogen content leads to instability of the superstructure.
