Effect of a protection unit on the output signal of an optimum filter
Abstract
A formula is obtained for calculating the output signal of a matched filter when a protection unit is connected to the filter input. The obtained formula is then used to investigate signal distortions and to evaluate the effects of the signal spectrum shape and the shapes of the phase-frequency and amplitude-frequency characteristics on the magnitude of these distortions. It is shown that the magnitude of signal distortions is limited by the pulse response of an individual channel of the protection unit.
