Equipments and results of ionospheric modulation experiment due to Loran-A radio wave
Abstract
Cross-modulation studies were carried out to survey spatial distributions of electron density, collisions, temperature and energy loss in the D layer of the ionosphere. Radio wave amplitude and phase modulations due to nonlinear phenomena in the ionosphere where cross-modulation was generated in radio waves passing the D-region heated by a radio navigation LORAN-A signal were studied. The maximum amplitude and phase modulation coefficients were found to occur at heights of 82 and 75 km, respectively. The observations are consistent with predictions of theoretical electron density and collision models.
