Spontaneous production of the Zel'dovich spectrum of cosmological fluctuations.
Abstract
The initial cosmological perturbation posited by Zel'dovich for the pancake theory of galaxy formation, that there is constant perturbation amplitude on all scales at the respective horizon times, is discussed. The property of gauge fields for producing perturbations on large spatial scales is considered. For a classical, U(1) Abelian Higgs model, the scaleindependent dimensionless size of perturbations is calculated to be approximately (8 pi/3)(Tc/Planck mass)(squared), where Tc is the critical temperature of spontaneous symmetrybreaking, related to the mass of the gauge boson of the symmetry group.
