Progressive settlements of foundations on cohesionless soils subjected to vertical vibratory loadings
Abstract
A governing equation was developed to relate with existing dynamic soil constitutive relationships. A method for progressive settlement analysis was then developed in which the shearing strain amplitude and number of loading cycles was related to the progressive strain. Comparisons of progressive strains observed from different types of dynamic tests at the same shearing strain amplitude show consistency of the method. The procedure and relationships can be used for predicting the progressive settlement of dynamically loaded foundations. An examination of a model test reported in the literature demonstrates the applicability of the developed method.
