The reflection of a strong shock wave from an ellipsoid
Abstract
The reflection of an ellipsoid of a strong planar shock wave moving along one of the axes of the ellipsoid is investigated. The equations of continuity, momentum and energy describing the gas flow behind a shock wave reflected from an ellipsoid are solved in the region of the critical point, neglecting the effects of gas viscosity and thermal conductivity, by the use of the small parameter method. Analytical expressions are obtained for flow parameters including velocity, pressure difference and the dimensionless pressure and enthalpy. The expressions are shown to be in agreement with previous results obtained for an elliptical cylinder and an ellipsoid of revolution.
