Plasma confinement in large-beta systems
Abstract
Some aspects of the thermal insulation of a hot high-density plasma in a large-beta system are examined. The cooling of a high-density high-beta fusion plasma across a magnetic field is analyzed. It is shown that in the contact of a hot plasma with a cold wall, there forms a magnetic layer that insulates the hot plasma. Means of modelling nonmagnetic confinement in theta-pinch systems with a liner are discussed.
