Noncoherent method for mapping phase objects
Abstract
A quantitative method is proposed for the analysis of phase objects which is based on the change in the moire pattern produced by two Ronchi rulings. The deflection mapping of a candle flame with a resolution of 0.00005 rad and lens mapping with a resolution of 0.01 rad are demonstrated. The proposed method can replace both schlieren photography and shadowgraphy because it uses basically the same equipment as these techniques and gives complete quantitative information.
