Photoionization of CO and NO by tunable VUV laser radiation
Abstract
Rotational state selective stepwise photoionization of CO with mass selective ion detection has been investigated. Excitation of the (A 1Π, υ ∼ = 13 ← X 1Σ +, υ ∼ = 0) transition of CO was performed using tunable VUV radiation generated by frequency tripling a high power dye laser operating at 369 nm in krypton gas. Ionization of the excited states was done by the fourth harmonic of a Nd: YAG laser. In addition direct photoionization of nitric oxide by using the tunable VUV radiation was obtained. In both cases sensitivity measurements are presented.
