Very-low-q discharges in DIVA
Abstract
The paper presents results of investigations into the characteristics of the confinement properties of very-low-q discharges in DIVA, i.e., within the open interval between 1 and 2. Experimental conditions and diagnostics are described together with results on confinement characteristics. It is concluded that the possibility of achieving very-low-q discharges in a large tokamak, in order to obtain a high-beta plasma without dangerous major disruption, exists.
