Ponderomotive effects and modulational instability in a magnetoactive plasma
Abstract
The modulational instability produced by Langmuir oscillations is analysed for an isotropic plasma and also in the case in which a strong external magnetic field (Omega-e is much greater than omega-pe) is present. By comparing these results with those already obtained for the case Omega-e is much less than omega-pe, a general picture of the effects due to the presence of an external magnetic field is given.
