Heat exchange by radiation and polarization
Abstract
The effects of polarization characteristics on radiative heat transfer are evaluated. The indices of refraction and extinction of sample materials were determined from the characteristics of reflected polarized radiation incident on them using a reestablished polarization apparatus, and used in the numerical integration of the transfer equations in order to obtain the form factor. It is found that for various configurations with the same form factor, the flux calculated taking into account polarization effects differs from that determined by classical methods by up to 25 percent, depending on relative surface geometry.
