On lightnings on Venus from data of measurements aboard the Venera 9 and Venera 10 satellites.
Abstract
Venera 9 and 10 performed optical measurements of lightnings (total energy exceeding 100 million J) on Venus over an area of 35 million sq km at latitudes of plus and minus 32 deg. A lightning region with an area of 50,000 sq km was observed; in this region the mean energy of lightning was 10 billion J, the flash duration was 0.25 s, and the lightning frequency was 100/s. If the data reflect the average situation, the coefficient of conversion of solar energy to lightning energy is 0.00001.
