Giant pulse generation in a laser with a two-photon absorbent
Abstract
An analysis is performed of the process of giant pulse generation in a laser with a Q-modulator and a two-photon saturable absorbent. The characteristic features of this process are presented, and the conditions for obtaining different laser operation regimes are defined. Approximate analytical expressions have been derived that describe the basic parameters of the pulse generated in the absence of absorption saturation. The possibilities of controlling the pulse parameters within a wide range as well as of stabilizing its power and energy are demonstrated. Results are given from preliminary experimental studies on a YAG neodymium ion laser with a Pockel's cell and 6G rhodamine solution in ethanol as the two-photon absorbent.
