On-board equipment for medium capacity domestic satellite communication system
Abstract
The onboard communication system (transponders and antenna) for the CS-2 satellite to be launched by Japan in 1983 is discussed with reference to its design philosophy and characteristics. The design focused on the environmental test verification of electromagnetic compatibility and reliability of the system. Particularly, for the antenna, thermostructural design methods including material selection, analytical design, and environmental tests have been developed in addition to electrical design. Other requirements considered include weight distribution, power consumption, mechanical properties, thermal conditions, antenna pointing accuracy, and telemetry conditions. Basic technical specifications are presented.
