Thinned array configurations for use with satellite-based adaptive antennas
Abstract
Array configurations for use with adaptive antenna nulling are examined. Good close-in nulling resolution is found with a circular array configuration, but the average coverage area of the array is compromised due to high sidelobes and grating lobes. Exponentially space tapering the elements improves the average coverage area, which also leads to incompatible element spacings. An array developed according to standard synthesis techniques for nonuniform arrays is also considered. The nulling resolution against single source scenarios is shown to decompose in two orthogonal directions.
