Observations of masers in regions of star formation
Abstract
Recent progress in the observation of masers in regions of star formation is surveyed, and a detailed description is given of strong OH, H2O, SiO and methanol (CH3OH) masers observed in the Orion-Kl, W51, W49 and W3 regions. The Orion region is unique in containing the only example of an SiO maser source, and all methanol masers near 25 GHz. OH masers are widespread throughout the Galaxy, and are associated with compact radio continuum sources, IR objects and H2O masers.
