W. Wisniewski, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona, reports a detection of photometric variability of the narrow-emission-line galaxy MK 1055 = I Zw 8. Magnitudes measured with the 1.5-m telescope on Sept. 2 were: U = 15.44, B = 15.25, V = 14.66, R = 14.12, I = 13.78; and on Sept. 19 were: U = 15.64, B = 15.92, V = 15.25, R = 14.58, I = 14.04. Further observations confined the object to be variable. It is suggested that MK 1055 is a prototype of a new class of extragalactic variable objects.
