Vortex interpretation of the Landau theory of turbulence generation
Abstract
Landau's theory of laminar to turbulent transition deals with the behavior of a weak initial disturbance that arises in the flow at near critical Reynolds numbers. In the present paper, the generation, evolution, and breakdown of turbulent vortices in time is analyzed within the framework of Landau's theory. The possible number of degrees of freedom of the flow is established.
