Determination of the directivity of combined ultrasonic transducers
Abstract
A method is proposed for estimating the directivity of the ultrasonic transducers of flaw detectors operating in combined radiation-reception mode. With an appropriate set of wedge-shaped specimens, the method makes it possible to determine the directivity of a transducer loaded with a solid, check the symmetry of the radiation field in the far zone, and to establish the limiting values of the aperture angles for which the directivity calculation in the steady-state approximation is valid. Experimental results are presented for commercial transducers.
