Fiber microbend acoustic sensor
Abstract
An intensity modulated fiber-optic acoustic sensor using multimode technology is described. The device contains no break in the optical path and requires no electrical power at the sensor. Minimum detectable pressure measurements have been made at 100-Hz increments, spanning the 100-2000 Hz range. Minimum acoustic detectability occurs in the vicinity of 1.1 kHz. Acoustic signals at 95 dB re 1 microPa have been detected.
