Pulse code modulation of CO2 TEA laser pulse
Abstract
The tail of the carbon dioxide TEA laser pulse has been pulse-code modulated with an electrooptic modulator. An external double-pass Pockels cell produced a train of optical pulses 100 ns wide at a 5 mHz repetition rate. Such a device extends the capability of the carbon dioxide TEA laser by using the tail for information transfer from the transmitter to the receiver, while preserving the gain-switched spike for precision ranging.
