A search for pulsations and eclipses from X-ray burst sources
Abstract
SAS 3 data on the persistent emission from five X-ray burst sources has been analyzed for the presence of pulsations and eclipses. None were found; 90% confidence upper limits to the pulsed fraction in the persistent X-ray emission are given, and are typically a few percent for periods in the range 1.6-66 s and 5-10% for periods in the range 66-1000 s. The implications of these results for the standard model of a compact object in a binary system are discussed.
