On the resonant rotation of Venus
Abstract
The paper is concerned with the three-dimensional problem of the rotation of Venus around its center of mass under the influence of the gravitational moments of the sun and the earth. Equations of motion are obtained which indicate that the motion of Venus is governed by the laws similar to the generalized Cassini laws. The stability of the motion is investigated. The theory is used to determine the inclination of Venus' equator to its orbit. The inclination is found to be equal to 51 plus or minus 17 arc min.
