A new method of determining distances to some extragalactic radio sources
Abstract
The paper analyzes the evolution of variable radio source structures in the hedgehog model proposed for quasars. It is shown that the time evolution of the angular separation between two components (the nucleus and the electron cloud which dissipate along the lines of force of the nuclear radial magnetic field) can be defined by the equation of an ellipse between the initial and the final separations. This equation provides several ways of determining the distance to the source. The estimates of the distances to some of the radio sources obtained by the proposed methods do not contradict the values determined from the redshifts.
