Libration of Comet P/Boethin around the 1/1 Resonance with Jupiter
Abstract
Comet P/Boethin (1975 I) is shown to librate around the 1/1 resonance with Jupiter during at least a few centuries. The period of libration is about 200 years. The comet moves in an extremely remote satellite orbit around Jupiter. Using the most probable orbital elements the capture into this satellite orbit occurred about 180 years ago, and the escape will occur about 510 years into the future.
