Miniature automatic module tester
Abstract
The paper describes a new miniaturized piece of automatic test equipment, called TESTAR, which is a portable, handheld, digital logic tester. TESTAR features a programmable UUT interface controlled by its own dedicated microcomputer. Field-alterable internal memory contains over 100 different test procedures, including self-test. Additional features are full short-circuit protection and automatic power-down to extend the life of the rechargeable battery. The principal applications are testing circuit boards, integrated circuits, and special modules. Ease of operation, internal circuitry, and packaging for user's convenience are discussed. TESTAR brings the benefits of automatic testing to small custom users who could not justify the tremendous costs of previous test systems.
