Higher eigenstates of Goertler vortices
Abstract
The three-dimensional instability predicted by Goertler (1940) for boundary layers on concave walls is of importance in problems of heat transfer and laminar-turbulent transition. The centrifugal forces cause the flow to roll up into steady counterrotating vortices, similar to the Taylor vortices in circular Couette flow. In the present paper, stability diagrams for the higher modes are obtained, along with the associated velocity distributions.
