Quasi 3-D finite element computation of flows in centrifugal compressors
Abstract
A quasi 3-D calculation based on finite elements is presented in the spirit of Wu's approach. The flow along the S2 surface is replaced by the resolution of exact density-averaged, pitch-averaged equations. A complete integrated program has been developed in order to compute the flow in meridional and blade-to-blade surfaces, performing automatically the transfer of interaction data between the two connected flow families. Examples of calculations of flows in centrifugal compressors are presented and compared to experimental results.
