Comparative analysis of the possibilities of optical methods in the study of turbulence
Abstract
A theoretical analysis is presented of the performance of several optical methods, common in ballistic studies, for the determination of the statistical properties of density fluctuations in turbulent wakes of bodies in free flight. The luminous-point method, the schlieren method, and interferometry are considered. It is found that the schlieren method is the most effective for the turbulence measurements under consideration.
