Macroscopic transport equations
Abstract
The macroscopic transport equations, necessary for the description of plasmas as fluids are derived in a way which emphasizes their origin in the kinetic theory. The equations of conservation of mass, of momentum, and of energy, are obtained from a general transport equation, and are identified with the hierarchy of moments of the Boltzmann equation. The approximations inherent in the cold and warm plasma models are explicitly indicated.
