The impact of LSI on missile electronics
Abstract
The paper deals with three major developments influencing computer-controlled missile guidance systems. These are: the increasingly complex architecture of onboard missile computers required to meet increasing performance and redundancy requirements; LSI and VLSI circuits generated by computer-aided design are complementing off-the-shelf microprocessors to provide special functions and better performance; and high-density packaging techniques developed to accommodate complex digital systems in the volume and weight constraints of light-weight ground and air-launched missiles. These trends are discussed on hand of actual design examples. Trade-off considerations for choosing specific monolithic circuit implementations are proposed.
