Properties of optimal transfers in central fields
Abstract
The behavior of optimal coplanar orbital transfer trajectories in arbitrary central gravitational fields are examined. Fuel optimization is performed without consideration of the phases of motion and without imposing time constraints on the transfer maneuvers. Optimal, under these conditions, are transitions with apsidal impulsive tangential thrust. Synthesis of optimal control of the final stage of transfer to a circular orbit is given as an example.
