A study of injection lasers. II
Abstract
The mode composition of the output of injection lasers and the ways of controlling it with selective cavities are discussed. The results of some experiments on a laser with an external dispersive cavity using one or two reflecting diffraction gratings are presented. An asymmetric interaction of the spectral modes is observed and interpreted as induced scattering of the laser light on dynamic inhomogeneities in the electron density within the active medium. The principal of isoperiodic substitution of atoms in multicomponent solid solutions is discussed and used to obtain new types of heterolasers which operate at room temperature in the infrared.
