Production of XeF/B/ by nuclear pumping
Abstract
Nuclear pumping of Ar/Xe/NF3 mixtures is described employing a TRIGA reactor and a 10-B coated laser tube. A small signal gain at 351 nm of approximately 0.01%/cm was observed. Of the energy that went into Ar metastable formation, 50% was channeled into XeF production. This is the first report of gain for nuclear pumping of an excimer, and extrapolation to higher input powers appears promising.
