Trends in optoelectronic components
Abstract
The paper describes the state of the art of LED's, laser diodes and detectors. The most important device developments in silicon carbide, and gallium nitride, are discussed along with recent developmental goals. Attention is given to light emitting diodes for indicators and displays, and to the considerations for the development of application oriented devices, which include optical communication with glass fibers, optoelectric couplers, gas spectroscopy with IR laser diodes, and thermal imaging with IR detectors.
