Analysis of heading-sensitive gyrocompassing errors
Abstract
A formula for estimating heading-sensitive gyrocompassing errors has been obtained via an analysis of a typical gyrocompassing scheme employing a gimbaled IMU. The gyrocompassing scheme considered is referred to as 'two-position offset zero-torquing gyrocompassing' which determines the amount of misalignment of the IMU platform from the level plane in addition to the azimuth heading of the platform x-axis. The analysis results show that the heading determination error due to uncertainties in accelerometer scale factors, accelerometer biases, gyro heading-sensitive drifts, y-accelerometer non-orthogonality, and gyro input-axis g-sensitive drifts, is heading sensitive.
