Direct digital control of plasma position in JFT-2 tokamak without shell
Abstract
A system for the feedback of plasma position is installed in the remodelled shell-less JFT-2 tokamak. The power supply of the control field is operated by the direct digital control using a 16-bit digital process computer with 48 K words of memory and a 16-bit microprocessor-controlled regulator for double three-phase bridge thyristor rectifiers. The response time of the digital control loop is 2.3 msec. The preliminary experiments show that the plasma current is sustained for approximately 160 msec.
