Field repair of optical cables and bundles

A simple splicing technique has been developed for joining optical-fiber bundles. The procedure requires neither grinding nor polishing of the fiber; it does not require the use of specialized tools or instruments such as microscopes or micropositioners. With the proposed splicing technique, some variation in the outside diameter of the fiber bundle is tolerated.
