The utilization of an image processing system for small-scale cartography based on space images
Abstract
The paper discusses the fabrication of a four-color photographic map on a 1:250,000 scale using analog and numerical Landsat data, with reference to the mapping of French national territory. The processing phases, the materials, and the software utilized within the interactive image-processing MATRA 101 system are considered. Various phases of the image processing system are described, including the geometric phase, the radiometric phase for choosing the proper combination and chromatic balance of the original Landsat images for an esthetically satisfying result, and the textural phase of image contrast augmentation for minimizing loss of definition.
