Switching and signalling aspects concerning the integration of satellite systems in the telecommunication network
Abstract
The interconnection of a telecommunication satellite system with the terrestrial network may have an important economical impact if modification of the international switching center is required, especially when the integration of the satellite is in a well established telecommunication network. The paper deals with the specific problem concerning the integration of the European satellite ECS in the telephone network. Existing or planned signaling systems in Europe are reviewed and their advantages and disadvantages for satellite links are analysed. The limitation imposed by PCM channels to the signaling system using out-of-band line signaling is studied and a solution is proposed. Finally, a method is described to transmit in the TDMA/DSI system the signaling and monitoring signals required by CCITT using only one signaling channel per DSI module instead of the conventional two channels per primary PCM multiplex.
