Experimental study of the pressure distribution about a circular cylinder in combined convective flow
Abstract
The pressure distribution about a heated 19-mm circular cylinder in combined convective flow has been measured. Both assisting and opposing flow have been considered. The tests cover a Reynolds number range of approximately 250 to 1000, the Grashof number being of the order of 20,000. The results indicate that the buoyancy forces have a considerable influence on the pressure distribution, particularly on the rear portion of the cylinder. The pressure distributions have been integrated to obtain pressure drag coefficients, these being increased by the buoyancy forces in assisting flow and decreased by these forces in opposing flow.
