Jets with an initial profile in the form of a step
Abstract
The velocity and symmetry characteristics of the step-profile jet resulting from the interaction of two parallel jets, often encountered in fluidics elements, are investigated. Flow velocities were measured by a pilot tube at various vertical positions along the length of the flow created by two jets at different speeds. A rough approximation based on the Gortler profile starting at the end of the potential nozzle and the nozzle equivalent width is shown to be in good agreement with experimental results. The vertical position of the plane of symmetry downstream of the nozzle calculated from the theorem of moments is also found to correspond to experimental values obtained by numerical integration of the measured velocity profiles.
