Magnetic mirror fusion research at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory
Abstract
Success in achieving workable solutions to the scientific problems of plasma equilibrium and plasma instability and to technical problems of creating and sustaining fusion plasma in mirror systems is reviewed. The economic problem of improving the power amplification factor, Q, of a fusion system using magnetic mirrors is addressed. Possible solutions examined include the use of tandem mirrors and field reversal using high level current neutral beam injection.
