Simulation of Spacelab fluid loops by means of a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) electronics analysis program
Abstract
The fluid loops used in the Spacelab to transfer thermal energy to the orbiter were studied using the ASTEC 3 program. ASTEC 3 was developed for the description of electric networks. Simulations of one or both the air and water loops of Spacelab which show the influence of several parameters are discussed. The results, expressed graphically as the evolution of the temperature as a function of time in the various cases, are presented. It is shown that a set of models describing each physical subsystem can be derived from a modular program such as ASTEC to treat a great variety of problems in electronics, thermodynamics, or hydrodynamics.
