Aeronomical models of the stratosphere
Abstract
After a brief presentation of the fundamental equations describing the physical and chemical behavior of the atmosphere, it is shown how these equations can be simplified in order to model the distribution, the transport, and the balance of the most important stratospheric constituents. The principal mathematical methods used to solve such problems are presented. Moreover, a particular two-dimensional model is described as an example. Finally, the methodology used to model anthropogenic perturbations related to the injection of nitrogen oxides by stratospheric vehicles and to the emission of chlorofluoramethanes is briefly described.
