Application of microwave energy to post-calcination treatment of high-level nuclear wastes
Abstract
The drying of a pelleted waste and vitrifying of a calcined waste by microwave heating were investigated. Tests show pellet drying by microwave energy to be superior to drying by conventional methods. Vitrification by microwave energy gave a uniform glass in less time than radiant energy.
